Residents
share time
and talents
Leave it to Terrell to pull off
such a spectacular event as the
Terrell ISO Excellence Foundation
Founding Donors Dinner that I was fortunate
enough to attend earlier this week. It truly was
amazing to witness such a well-organized affair, especially after
knowing that it was only a year
in the making. Of course, it would
not have been possible without
all the sacrifices of
money, time and talents so
many volunteers gave in
the effort of working toward the goal of building the best
school district around.
Foundation organizers should be credited for producing such a
profitable and energetic start in
such a short time.
With a hefty initial goal of
$150,000, Thursday's fundraiser
edged them much closer than
many anticipated with donation's
exceeding $211,000 by
night's end - truly a
remarkable feat in today's
economy.
ln spite of today's economic
times, it will not be surprising
to me if the generosity of Terrell
residents will become evident once
again and that the foundation will
be successful in not only meeting
but exceeding that goal.
Robert Hulsey, who heads up the new non-profit organization,
was quick to recognize the
behind-the-scenes work of his
fellow foundation members
such as Sarah Kegerreis.
Tori. Lucas, Bonnie
McGinty and Dana Skelton.
A job well done to Amy Sanders
and Kristi Self who led the team of
decorators who transformed the
Furlough Middle school cafeteria
into an elegant setting for the
foundation's Founding Donors
Dinner. Mike Cronin reportedly
played an integral part, taking
directions from the dynamic
duo and helping to create
elegant centerpieces by filling
up countless jugs of water to put in
vases for the floating candles.
Among the locals attending the
gala were David and Joyce Lewis,
(a teacher), Mayor Hal Richards
and his wife Christi, another
teacher and Judge Mike and Elise
Chitty (another former teacher).
Also, a big round of applause
to Terrell High School junior Max
Valenzuela who gave an inspiring
message about the benefits of
the foundation to future TISD
students. Max, if you decide to
abandon your health care career, I think you
might do well to pursue
a career in public speaking.
Also a big thank you to
Linda Patton of the Cedar Hill
ISD Education Foundation who
provided insight and words of
encouragement to Foundation
members and promised to check
in on their progress.
And, last, but not least a bravo to all the THS alumni who are involved in the foundation and have already made us so proud.
Announcing the creation of Terrell ISD
Excellence Foundation.
