History
The Terrell ISD Excellence Foundation, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, promotes
quality education for Terrell Independent School District. Established in 2008, the Foundation
encourages excellence in education and seeks and distributes funds to support effective programs and
initiatives to further enhance learning for public school students in the Terrell community.
In 2008 a group of community volunteers dedicated to education was invited to meet with the
superintendent to hear of the need and the benefits of an education foundation for Terrell ISD. A
Steering Committee was formed to complete the task. Subsequently, the Certificate of Formation was
filed with the State of Texas, bylaws were drafted, programs developed and an application was made to
the Internal Revenue Service for designation as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.
A Founding Donor Campaign began in late 2008 and ended in June, 2009. Over $300,000 was raised to
begin the work of the Foundation. The Foundation’s first grants were awarded in August of 2009 in the
amount of $49,858. The work of the Foundation has continued, and after the 2022 Fall Grants were given,
the Foundation has awarded a total $2,252,447 in grants to the students and teachers of Terrell.
