Grants in Action
Ms. Guthrie was awarded $10,000 for her "Tigers on Broadway" grant. These funds are partial support for THS Theater students to go to New York City to experience professional theater by attending a Broadway performance, attend an acting workshop and backstage tours.
Mr. Young was awarded $5,000 for the "Folklorico Studies" grant. This grant will support an after-school instruction program for students interested in cultural Folklorico dance.
Ms. Watson was awarded $5,000 for her "Standing for Change" grant. This grant will support THS FFA and Ag Science student in the care and maintenance of their animals.
Ms. Quirl was awarded $2,000 for the "HiLo Books to Hook Reluctant Students". This grant is focused on improving literacy skills for struggling and reluctant readers by providing HiLo (High interest; Low level) age-appropriate books to more effectively engage students in developing a culture of independent reading.
Ms. McClinton was awarded $9,463 for "The Rockin' Texas History/College Road Trip". This grant will support a joint FMS-AVID and History department field trip to visit the Capitol, the Alamo and tour college campuses.
Ms. Fitzgerald wrote "Versatile Independence with Versa-Tiles" grant. She was awarded $1,460 to provide books & equipment to incorporate a self-checking system to develop independence utilizing reading and writing stations.
Ms. Foster was awarded $730 for her "Learning, Capturing, Excelling" grant. This grant provides a camera and ancillary equipment to support GLA students in producing a campus yearbook. Students involved in projects like this gain creativity, communication skills and design/electronic publishing experience.
Ms. Sheeran was awarded $8,060 for her "A Journey to the Wetlands" grant. This grant is focused on increasing STEM hands-on experiences for all 4th grade students to go on a field trip to the Bunker Sands Wetland Center. The goals are to increase interest in STEM related professions and see real-life applications for their STEM learning.
Ms. Smith was awarded $6,792 for the grant she wrote, Teaching & Training for Future Teachers. This grant will provide equipment and supplies supporting the teaching career pathway for THS students.
